Mediterranean Wildlife| 57mins
Director: Richard Steenhuis | Producer: Richard Steenhuis
Focus Years: 2008 | Country: Cyprus
Synopsis:
For visitors to Cyprus, traveling from the colder but affluent northern Europe, the small island in the eastern Mediterranean seems a vestige of traditional Mediterranean values. But half a million visitors each year make extraordinary demands on the infrastructure and nature of the island. Cyprus rose from the sea in a violent volcanic eruption. In its special soil grow unique plants found nowhere else. Isolated in the mountain forests, birds have evolved into separate sub species. In spring and autumn millions of migrant birds rest on the island on their way north and south. Visitors need to be mindful of the influence, for good and for bad that they can affect on the island's wildlife.
