Synopsis:
For most Americans, Kenya conjures up images of wildlife safaris and Maasai warriors. But behind the tourist gloss is a country troubled by a lack of one of the most basic human necessities - clean drinking water. Join a young engineering student at Montana State University, Callie Blackwood, whose passion for helping others takes her to Kenya with Engineers Without Borders as she works to bring clean drinking water to more than 1,000 school children. During the trip, she befriends a young woman named Nina. Together they navigate a myriad of challenges, including cross-cultural stereotypes and the pitfalls of international development work. A captivating documentary filled with courage, humor and determination, “The Water Carriers” follows Callie's journey as she learns first-hand what it means to be one of the water carriers.
