Synopsis:
Diwali is the Indian Festival of Lights celebrated by all Hindus, Sikhs and Jains. It occurs on the first day of the lunar Kartika month, which comes in October or November. Originally commemorating the return of Ram and Sita from exile, for Sikhs Diwali commemorates the Sikh struggle for freedom, celebrating the release from prison of the sixth Guru Hargobind Ji along with 52 Hindu Kings. Although the festival originates from such specific occurrences in the histories of Hindu and Sikh religions, the celebration carries a great message of universal spirituality. Symbolically it marks the homecoming of goodwill and the uplifting of spiritual darkness, while the lights represent the victory of good over evil within every human being. This short documentary was filmed in a Sikh temple in London, the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, during the 19-hour celebration of Diwali on November 9th, 2007.
