Synopsis:
A pregnant woman with complaints, a man who keeps having accidents, constant quarrels in a family, former rebels returning, a traumatized society after 24 years of brutal conflict. Among the Acholi in northern Uganda spirits influence every aspect of human life. Ancestral spirits protect persons and families, clans and society, whereas wild, non-social spirits inflict misfortunes and suffering on the society. A cautious give-and-take between human beings and the spiritual world is required to maintain the world as it should be. Yet, sometimes things get out of control, persons and communities are afflicted with epidemics, bloodshed, infertility, and other misfortunes. Wild spirits take possession of people, diviners, healers or prominent rebel leaders. In 2009, with a relative peace reigning in the North, the Acholi are committed to re-constructing their society with the help of spirits.
