Synopsis:
The Community Based Theatre (CBT) is a group of members of the community who express, through their art forms in their languages, their points of view in regard to their customs, traditions, emotions, and development needs. In other words, CBT is a local folk performance group, evolved from the rural community, which is traditionally rich in folk culture. These folk performance groups normally use various modes of drama, song, and dance for entertainment during festivals and their leisure time. Most of these groups are voluntary in spirit. They function out of the natural urge to give expression to themes based on either the folktales, epics, or some local problems. The CBT worked within their narrow bounds, usually for entertainment purposes. The members of the CBTs are drawn from the community itself, who join these folk troupes, driven by their intense desire to take part in artistic activities. They usually perform in their villages during festivals and agricultural off-seasons.
