Life & Film, The Labyrinthine Biographies of Vojtech Jasny| 1hr : 19mins
Director: Arkaitz Basterra | Producer: Pako Ruiz
Focus Years: 2009 | Country: Spain
Synopsis:
After having been one of the most successful film directors in Europe in the nineteen sixties, Vojtech Jasny‚ a Czech, now forgotten by many, lives in a small apartment in New York. His life and film making are inseparable. In LIFE AND FILM, Vojtech, from his home in New York and through the visits to his old friends, will recount his own story: from the Nazi invasion in Czechoslovakia to the Soviet invasion, and from subsequent exile to his arrival to New York years later.
This film showcases his successful film making, his work, and his life with the most internationally important filmmakers, musicians, and writers of the time. Although his constant social and political compromise obliged him to take exile and made him suffer three KGB attacks against his life, Vojtech was always faithful to his beliefs, even if that took him to oblivion.
