Synopsis:
This film is fundamentally about the strength of one woman in her struggle to protect her tribal land and water. Ngāneko Minhinnick has spent most of her seventy years fighting against the system, a burden she does not wish upon her children and grandchildren. Makings of a Kaitiaki explores how this role was bestowed on her, as well as uncovering some of the key ingredients required to fulfil it. An intriguing storyteller, Ngāneko leads the way through political battles and personal revelations. “I don’t know what other reason there would be to be on this earth if you can’t protect.” – Ngāneko Minhinnick
