Synopsis:
Cash Madam is about the formidable women traders in West Africa known as ‘Mama Benz’ (because they usually drive Mercedez Benz automobiles) or simply as ‘Cash Madam’. Physically flamboyant, and with a reputation as tough, no-nonsense business women, they buy and sell everything from textiles to machinery. In the markets of Lagos, Nigeria’s bustling commercial capital they occupy a key entrepreneurial role in the thriving informal sector. But, officially, their contribution to the local and national economy is ignored – they don’t appear in Nigeria’s GDP figures, where they remain an invisible force.
