Synopsis:
In 1948, following the UN partition plan for Palestine, fighting breaks out between Arabs and Jews. In April of the same year, the young teacher Hind Al-Husseini comes across a large group of young children in Jerusalem. They are the survivors of the massacre in Deir Yassin.
Husseini takes the children in and establishes an orphanage in her Jerusalem home. Today, Dar al-Tifl al-Arabi is the largest Palestinian orphanage providing education to more than 1,500 pupils. The film is about how Husseini and her successors fill in the gaps when the state is unable to perform its function as a provider of adequate welfare.
