Professor M.P. Ranaweera is the pioneer introducing "Finite Element Analysis" under Structural Engineering. He also developed the Engineering Curriculum in Sri Lanka. During his sabbatical period he worked in the USA and was offered to work continuously but he declined those offers and returned to make contributions to his mother country.
He contributed to the restoration and conservation of ancient Sthupa's in Sri Lanka, among other.
