Journey Through Sound| 16mins
Director: Carolyn Reid | Producer: Jacquie Lawrence
Focus Years: 1992 | Country: United Kingdom
Synopsis:
Deafness is often misunderstood by society. Many people have little idea how to communicate with a deaf person. "Journey Through Sound" was produced with the intention of introducing the hearing world to a deaf woman's day-to-day experience to help change attitudes.
Starring Julie Storey, the film follows her journey through a city center, evoking painful memories from her childhood, recorded in flashback. The use of a personal story encourages discussion to help the hearing world understand the compromises deaf people face. Communication is a two-way process but for deaf people it is often an unequal one.
