"Imagine a nothingness filled with everything, then silence filled with sound and the world before it grew up, then imagine a future where you only lived to choke on what you destroyed, then imagine beauty without boundaries, with forms and colours that could fill a gallery and then some." —John Smallshaw, 2012 Much of the natural and cultural diversity of the Amazon Rainforest is at risk of gradually disappearing. Some areas of the Brazilian Amazon Rainforest have been flooded or burned, as a result of development. In these areas, there are few initiatives to preserve ancient cultures and traditions that may be in danger. Amazonian native tribes like the Tucano tribe featured in this film are gradually loosing their culture by assimilation into modern societies. This short film essay explores the contraposition of the natural world with modern urban environments by alternating shots of the Amazon Rainforest with footage from two large cities: Sao Paulo and London. The film explores the two environments and it uses those environments to look at some of the people and situations along there and how both worlds eventually overlap. The film reflects on the issue of cultural survival and it examines the detachment from nature experienced in modern cities. The film aims to give the audience an experience where they can let their imagination go, be surprised, intrigued and hopefully to provoke some thinking through a symbolic journey on a canoe across the Amazon river.
