Synopsis:
In 1997, Aletta van Beeck came to the island of Bonaire for three months to work as a physiotherapist. Fifteen years later, she is still there and Bonaire has become her home. The island provided her with the opportunity to carry out her dream of living as closely to nature as possible. To accomplish this, Aletta radically changed her way of life and slowly but surely said goodbye to basic material conveniences like tap water and electricity. She now runs her own self-sustaining goat farm and makes a living out of it. Over the years, her herd of goats has expanded and she now produces goat cheese for local restaurants and shops. Little by little, more and more volunteers sign up at her Kunuku (the local word for farm) to lend a hand. Aletta’s inner strength and conviction, and dedication to her dream, enable her to face the daily challenges of living a life completely outside the box.
