Synopsis:
It is the true story of a blind boy, Marlon Garbida, who overcomes the prejudice and discrimination he faces because of his disability, in his quest to get the most basic right that he could access—education. It starts with a typical day between him and his daunting mother. He insists on going to school despite the prevailing radio news that classes are suspended due to the national alarm that a coup d'état is unfolding in the capital city of Manila against the incumbent government of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Marlon wins and his mother prepares and brings him to school although she knows that everything will be wasted to futility. When they reached the gates of the closed campus, she is already prepared to bring Marlon home. But the young boy wants to proceed to his teacher's house. Of course, the pleased teacher welcomes them and updates Marlon in his braille lessons and mobility exercises. The documentary expounds the boy's story in relation to his own family's resignation to and acceptance of his disability as a lifetime burden to keep. The filming of the actual activities of the family for many days opens old wounds, such as the mother's confession that it was her unsafe abortion that caused Marlon's blindness and clubbed feet and fingers, and the elusive father's wish for Marlon to stop studying and accept his fate already. But Marlon deals with his father's discrimination not with anger, but with carefree and ridiculous laughter. His bubbly disposition lights up their humble abode deprived of even the most basic necessities such as electricity and water. Their home is filled with selfless warmth and understanding given not only to Marlon, but equally among his supportive siblings, and between his caring parents.
