‘Dayamayee: In Search of Memories’ revolves round a tragic socio-political catastrophe—more specifically, the Partition of India in 1947. More evident and engaging in this film is indescribable mental suffering, obsession, psychological agony and the breakdown of a pattern of society including human relationships. The film is a direct reference to ‘Dayamayee’ or Sunanda Sikdar, the protagonist, who is a victim of the partition.
One day, she began to write her own memoir, entitled Dayamayeer Katha, a prize-winning piece of writing in Bengali literature. This documentary film is mainly based on this autobiography.
