Synopsis:
In the 1970s, filmmaker Jide Akinleminu’s parents - a Danish woman and a Nigerian man - fell in love, moved to Nigeria and started a family. When they moved back to Denmark 16 years later, it became clear that the father, a farmer by trade, could not find work on the continent. In this moving debut, the filmmaker explores the consequences of his family’s painful separation. On a rare visit to Nigeria, Akinleminu follows his father as he goes about his work, trying to picture the life he’s led these years they’ve been apart. Akinleminu watches with tenderness toward his subject and an eye for the beauty in the everyday, crafting a visually rich portrait of a man and his environment. But between the spacey soundtrack and the farmer’s loaded looks, there’s something elusive about what the filmmaker wants to capture, something unsayable he wants to understand.
