Synopsis:
“Escuela Senen Soi†is a short film that presents the unique role of Senen Soi School in the Peruvian Amazon. The school was launched in 2007 as a training program for up-and-coming indigenous leaders of the Amazon fighting to protect their lands, resources, and cultural heritage from extractive industries that threaten their existence. Oil, gas, mining, and logging companies have operated with little to no regulation in the Peruvian Amazon for decades, and the resulting environmental disasters have taught the indigenous populations that in order to protect their way of life and advocate for their rights they cannot rely on the state, but instead must take matters into their own hands. This is the story of the Senen Soi School.
